Neel Preet: First of all, Big Congratulations to you Mr. Kaashian on your debut book, “KAASH: Love Beyond Love” well, you’ve achieved something remarkably huge at a very young age! So, what’re your expectations from this book of yours? Please share your experience about this book.
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Thank you Neelji for being there for me through thick and thin. I feel blessed that my debut novel is with Puffins Publishers. You folks are doing a great job. Well, speaking on my expectations, I’m a first-time writer and all I want is hundreds and thousands of readers to read my novel. But, you know, at the end of the day people can be really disappointing. People these days buy books because of what’s popular, and not because they want to be moved or changed in some way. So, at this point, I’d be content if my readers are moved or changed in some way. I want to write more books, a handful of books over the next 5 years.
Neel Preet: I’ve read your book and I genuinely feel that it’s truly a heart-touching romantic novel, so my next question to you is that what inspired you to write a book like this?
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Well, they say teen age love is stupid, immature. But, the truth is we crave for that selfless, stupid, immature kind of love for the rest of our adulthood, especially in this era of cheating/fake relationships. In this age of Tinder romances, it’s very hard find a love story that genuinely melts your heart and warms your soul. So, yeah, it was my experiences of that pure, immature, and true love during my college days that made me write KAASH: Love Beyond Love.
Neel Preet: You have given an interesting title to your Romantic-Fictional Novel, which is undoubtedly very catchy too; So, what made you go for this particular title for your book?
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Well, I think I should thank you for suggesting the title. All of us have Kaash (Wishes) in our lives. But, does every Kaash come true? Why does life become so nasty at times? Is all well that ends well? “Kehte Hain Kisi Cheez Ko Puri Shiddat Se Chaho, Toh Puri Kainat Usse Tumse Milane Ki Koshish Mein Lag Jaati Hai” How far is this famous Shah Rukh Khan dialogue true in real life?
How many percentages of people have got what they have/had wished for in life? Why does life leave us incomplete? Why do our wishes remain unfulfilled? With all these questions in my mind, I penned down this story. So, I zeroed on the title KAASH: Love Beyond Love. This story of Love and Separation is dedicated to all those love birds that are separated from each other, to all those whose love and wishes remained unfulfilled for some reason.
Neel Preet: While reading your book, I sensed that your stories were jovial at some points, while sombre too at other points and it’s not an easy job to take the storyline through all those levels, like you did. So, what was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Well, I guess I owe this book to my mom for her never-ending love and the strength and courage she provided me through out my growing days that have led me to become the person I am today. And loads of love to my special someone who was the main reason behind the writing of this novel. I hope she feels proud, at any point of life, if she comes across this novel.
Neel Preet: These days many writers are coming out with their books, but not many of them are making their debut with a Contemporary Romantic Book! So, I want you to answer that why did you choose a full-fledged romantic novel to make your writing debut? And why not the Poetry like the majority debutants?
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Well, writing Poetry requires a lot of persistence and greater consistency. I envy people who write Poetry. I have so much respect for them. Poetry can be extremely challenging; poems need to speak more in fewer words and the readers need to believe in the brevity. So, salute to all the Poets out there. For now, my focus is on novels. Maybe, poems in future, you never know.
Neel Preet: Your stories truly have some really strong emotions inside them, which had greatly impressed me and thus I would like you to explain the overall theme of your book.
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Well, the story portrays the feelings of two college going young teenagers. It was love at first sight for them. They fell for each other in their very first sight. They get close. They become friends. They share. They fight. They console. They dream together but their dreams shattered when the girl is married to another man. I mean to say everyone has Kaash (Wishes) in the long journey of life. We have to go through joy, pain, tears, happiness and heart break to fulfill our wishes. But, some wishes are fulfilled, some unfulfilled. But all of it remains as Memories.
Neel Preet: Your writing seemed to be really impeccable and you were bold with your storyline in your book, which I really appreciate. Therefore, I want you to tell us about some of those writers, who had inspired you and whom you follow!
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Among Indian authors, I love Ravinder Singh. I Too Had A Love Story and Can Love Happen Twice are my favorites. I also love Novoneel Chakraborty’s work. He is on another level altogether. I wish I can write like him someday. Recently, I finished reading Normal People by Irish author Sally Rooney. Now,I’m reading YOU and Hidden Bodies, both psychological thrillers by Caroline Kepnes.
Neel Preet: Is there any message which you would like to convey to your readers?Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Only thing I can say is please don’t ever stop reading. Reading makes us grow. Read to be moved or changed in some way. No matter how much stress we have at work, in our personal relationships or countless other issues in daily life, reading can transport us to other realms, letting tensions drain away and allowing us to relax. So, yeah, keep reading and yes, do write too and Puffins is there to publish you. Good luck.
Neel Preet: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Oh! Yes, I’m working on my next book, which is also a novel. It is more of the continuation to my first book KAASH: Love Beyond Love. I’m not revealing any further about the next novel. I want the readers to read it for themselves.
Neel Preet: Thank you so much for answering all my questions. All the very best to you for future and your book too!
Kaashian Baliarsingh: Means a lot. I’m flattered. Well, good luck to you and Puffins too. I hope you will find my next book good enough and give my manuscript the form of a book like you did for my first novel. Thank you.
